FARM MANAGER
A unique and exciting position of Farm Manager is to become available on the Isle of Colonsay. The role is to manage the livestock farming enterprise on Colonsay Estate, as well as implementing and managing the wider estate land management objectives.
The position is to take a lead role in the running of the livestock Farm (suckler cows and sheep) including all the day-to-day running of the Estate farming enterprise; be involved in aspects of wider estate management which may include environmental and natural capital projects; be able to manage the farm operation and meet all regulatory and record keeping requirements; identify staffing requirements throughout the farming year and hire contractors as required; organise and select livestock to go to market and establish a sound replacement policy for the herd and flock.
The successful candidate must have good managerial skills and able to work well with the current Farm and wider Estate staff and management team. The applicant must also be able to demonstrate a high level of technical knowledge of livestock production systems. In addition, they must be able to demonstrate excellent animal husbandry, manage the farm operation and meet all regulatory and record keeping requirements. They must be able to operate farming machinery in a safe and efficient manner and have the relevant tickets to complete their farming duties.
Preferable, but not essential, to have an interest in organic and regenerative farming practices as well as an interest in nature and biodiversity regeneration.
