ASSISTANT FARM MANAGER

A unique and exciting position of Assistant Farm Manager is to become available at Auch Estate, Bridge of Orchy, Argyll. This position requires someone who has experience in working in an extensive upland environment with sheep and cattle management experience. There is room for progression within the role due to the scale of the existing farming and estate wide operations.

The in-hand farming operation extends over 28,000 acres on predominately upland hill land supported by a small amount of in-bye land. The highest point of the estate is the summit of Beinn Dorain at 1,076m and boasts panoramic views across the entire Estate. The current sheep flock comprises approximately 6,000 head of Scottish Blackface Sheep alongside around 80 Highland X Shorthorn Cattle. The Estate also has wider environmental and deer management interests, including currently undergoing conversion to organic farming.

Auch Estate is currently undergoing an extensive development programme involving the construction of a small-scale, premium hotel and a brand new farm steading, the latter of which is due to be completed later in 2023. The incoming applicant will benefit from having high quality facilities available to them.

The successful candidate must have good managerial skills and able to work well with the current farm and wider Estate staff and management team. In addition they are required to have a good technical knowledge, be able to demonstrate a high level of animal husbandry and have working dogs to undertake gathering work on the hill. They should be keen to lead from the front and will be encouraged to explore any innovative ideas that they have for the farm moving forward.
