Harrison and Hetherington’s exhibition hall at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, will now be known as The Dick Harrison Showhall.

As part of Harrison and Hetherington’s 50 years celebrations, the exhibition hall has been officially named in honour of one of the company’s founding figures, Dick Harrison.

At a special ceremony attended by his daughter, Dawn Harrison, a former director of Harrison and Hetherington Group Plc, she unveiled a commemorative plaque and clock, paying tribute to her father’s legacy in the livestock auctioneering industry.

The clock plaque carries one of Dick’s most favoured phrases: “If it moves – we’ll sell it.”

Dawn Harrison reflected on her father’s legacy: “Dad would have been delighted to see the development of Borderway into a world-class auction and exhibition centre. He believed that a good deal was one where all parties walked away happy, and I know he would have been pleased to see the continued dedication of the Harrison and Hetherington team in making Borderway the success it is today. I’m thrilled to share this moment with my sister Anne, and although our mother, who was a staunch supporter of Dad, couldn’t be here, her spirit is certainly with us.”

Speaking afterwards Will Hamilton, chairman Group said: “Dick Harrison, whose connection with us began long before his official start date – having been involved as a schoolboy – worked tirelessly throughout his career to grow and support the firm. He remained deeply engaged with the business until his sad and untimely death few a week’s short of his planned retirement in April 1988. His influence and values continue to shape the company, making the renaming of the Exhibition Hall a fitting tribute to his ongoing influence here.”
