Kevin Watret’s British Blue herd retained its title at the inter-breed pedigree calf show at Borderway Agri Expo, with 2024 being the second year of the award.

This year’s winner was the October 2023-born heifer, Solway View Taffy, brought out by stockman Ali Jackson. Based on a points system from the various breed judges – British Blue, Aberdeen Angus, Hereford, Beef Shorthorn and Simmental – the winner scored 14 out of a possible 20. Runner up went to the Aberdeen Angus supreme, Morpheus Rose Y105 from Owen Tunney, Cheshire.

A daughter of Boherard Overdose, Taffy is bred from Solway View Limelight. She was on her first outing and is now destined for Stars of the Future and LiveScot.

Judge, Jean Mackay Parker of the Harelaw herd, found her reserve in the January-born bull, Clifftown Up To No Good from Dylan Townend and Nicky Midgley, Quarry Farm, North Yorkshire. Sired by Vigneron De La Chevratte, he is out of Clifftown Naughty But Nice, which has bred various show winners for the herd.

Taking the blue and white rosette among the females was the 10-month-old heifer, Lucky Blue Unique from Peter Jones, Penrhed, Lampeter. A son of Heros Du Peroy he is out of Lucky Blue Nicky.

Garry Patterson, Dundurcas, Aberlour, secured the reserve male honours with Aultmore Tomahawk. This yearling bull is sired by Gitan Du Pti’t Mayeur, bred from Aultmore Klassy, and is now gearing up for this month's Stars of the Future and LiveScot.
