The Hall family of Inglewood Edge, Dalston, secured the supreme sheep honours at Agri Expo.
Their pair of home-bred April-born Beltex cross lambs crossed the weigh scales at 54kg each. Having won their class at the new North East Live at Darlington, the pair are now set for LiveScot later in the month.
“The pair of lambs are full of meat from the shoulder right through. They are a very correct duo and were well presented for the show ring. In all it was a very good show of sheep,” said the judge Steven Wilson, an experienced livestock judge and butcher.
Having claimed the top spot last year, 15-year-old, Jack Whiteford, Tercrosset, Brampton, this time had to settle for the reserve this year. His winning duo are home-bred 45kg Texel cross ewe lambs.
In the hill breed section, the supreme went to a pair of North Country Cheviot lambs from Malcolm Stewart, Brotherstone, Melrose. His pairing weighed in at a total of 86.5kg having been purchased privately from Michael Dagg, Craighous. Sired by a Bellshiel tup, the pair is now heading to LiveScot and the Welsh Winter Fair.
The blue and white rosette went to a pair of North Country Cheviots weighing a total of 104kg for Luke Bell-Percy, Springhill, North Yorkshire.
Champion pair of lambs, bred from a hill ewe, went to black Welsh mountain crosses from Dougie Crew, Gall Farm, Lockerbie. Home-bred lambs by a Beltex sire, they weighed in at 43kg and 44kg on their first outing.
Alastair and Alan MacLarty, of the Firm of Shawhead, at Douglas, lifted the reserve in this section with a pair weighing 43kg each. They are out of Blackface ewes, and are sired by a Lipley Beltex tup.
James Robinson, Carnforth, again took the top two awards in the Mule gimmer classes for the fifth consecutive year.
Judge Brian Davies found his champion pair in the form of two Hawes purchases, from David Lawson and Neil Marsden, Highberries.
The single supreme went to a Mule gimmer purchased at Kirby Stephen from Andrew Brown, Asby Hall.
