Glasgow City Council’s Pollok enterprise, managed by Melissa Curran and Matt Auld, has won the Highland Cattle Society’s National Large Fold competition, judged by Andrew Kirkpatrick, Glengarnock.
The event which saw folds from throughout Scotland, England and Wales compete in the two size categories, included an award for the best small fold which was presented to David and Nancy Booth of the Scholes fold from Rotherham, south Yorkshire.
Mr Kirkpatrick who had 10 folds to visit was most impressed by the quality of cows and cattle.
“I was looking for a fold with strong breed characteristics, especially cows that were making a good job of their calves yet still looking well and fit themselves," he said.
" I felt the uniformity of the Pollok fold (Glasgow City Council) was carried throughout from the older cows to the first calving heifers which helped me make my decision to award them the winner of the large fold 2024.
“Scholes (David and Nancy Booth) was my small fold winner 2024 as again the strong beef characteristics were present in the good quality all round cows and calves. This fold also won the best group of calves by the same sire.”
