The Scottish Ploughing Championships at Newmore Farm, Invergordon, celebrated their 60th anniversary in style with more than 110 competitors taking part in the two-day event in the Highlands.

The event staged last weekend, saw seasoned winner Andrew Mitchell snr, Forfar, again lift the overall and conventional world style championship. The seven-time world champion will now head to Czechia to represent Scotland in the World Championships alongside reversible champion winner Brian Baxter, East Ingliston.

Overall vintage champion was George Black of Earlston while Linlithgow’s Colin Crawford took home the trophy for overall classic reversible.

The Scottish show of ploughing excellence also attracted a wide range of trade stands, food and craft stands, a model display, ploughing merchandise, as well as an appearance from the powerlifting YouTube personalities the Stoltman brothers.

It stayed dry until the ploughing was all finished.

“There was a big attendance, with the car park more or less full on the Saturday.”

Next year’s event will take place at Arbikie Farm, Lunan Bay, Arbroath, on October 24 and 25, 2025.
