Enthusiasts, exhibitors and volunteers turned out to say farewell to the last Blair Castle Horse Trials to take place at Blair Athol, after 35 years.
The ridden Clydesdale championship had 13 out of the 19 entries forward for judges Ron Brewster, Perth and Michelle Underwood, Sheffield.
Taking the top ticket was Burgess Outon Miracle from Colleen Marshall, Wigtonshire. This six-year-old, home-bred mare was produced by Colleen’s 14-year-old daughter, Kaitlyn who rode her to victory on the day after qualifying her for the championship at her first outing at Kilmacolm Show back in May.
She is sired by Eskechraggan Ernest and out of Rashillhouse Jessica Jean. Previously, this mare has had great success in-hand including winning the Cawdor Cup in 2022 amongst multiple other championship. This year on her second outing at Fife Show she qualified for Horse of the Year Show.
Reserve honours went to West Glen Abelia from Lauren Smith and Adam Young. Bred by Jim Anderson, Kilmacolm she is sired by Redcastle Brelee Majestic and out of Balgray Queenie. Now nine-years-old the mare qualified at West Fife Show where she won the ridden section and also placed first at Kinross Show earlier this month.
