Warm sunshine for the judging ensured a good day out for all – despite a downpour later in the afternoon which saw many race for shelter.

It was a particularly good day for the owners of the champion winning Texel, Holstein and Simmental, when their show stoppers went on to lift the supreme in the inter-breed sheep, dairy and beef cattle sections respectively.

In the busy sheep lines, the Texel gimmer from Brian and David MacTaggart of Douganhill Farms, is sired by a Coniston Equinox-sired gimmer and out of a Westmoy Concord-sired mother. She was inter-breed sheep and reserve champion of champions at Stewartry Show.

“What an excellent show of sheep there was. However, it was the Texel that caught my eye in the final line-up, being that bit flashier. She is a good sound sheep being good on her legs and having a good skin,” said the inter-breed sheep judge, Jimmy Sinclair, Heriot. “My reserve was the Berrichon, a huge tremendous tup with a great carcase.”
