Grangehall Pepper Whiterose, a Holstein cow in milk, secured the champion of champions award for the second consecutive year at Carnwath Show for Andrew and Ewan Lawrie, Grangehall, Lanark.

This Ex93-classified third calver sired by Delaberge Pepper and bred from the VG87 Grangehall Ponder Whiterose, produced her last in January and was paraded giving 40 litres per day.

“It was a very close call for the top two spots – the dairy champion was just an all-round, well-balanced beast,” said the overall judge, George Gardner, Lupus Farm, Lesmahagow.

The Clydesdale lead took the runner-up title. This was the yearling filly Stobilee Bonnie Jean, from Robbie Morton, Stobilee. Reserve at the Highland Show, she is sired by Singlie Limited Edition.

In the sheep lines, John Barclay, Mid Brockloch, Maybole, found his supreme in the February-born Texel tup lamb Clarks Hitman, from Dye and Elizabeth Clark, Lee Meadow. A son of the 10,000gns Overburns Gladiator, he is bred from a Strawfrank embryo.

Taking the blue and white sash was the two-crop Beltex ewe Gordy’s Glamour Girl from Alfie Taylor and Gordon Harrison. Sired by Buckles Dark Dawn, she is out of Lurg Ella, and stood reserve at Biggar.

Champion in the non-MV accredited rings was the Bluefaced Leicester crossing type, a gimmer from Finlay Robertson, The Beeches. She is sired by Hewgill R2, and out of N71 Hewgill.

A two-shear Corsebank-bred Blackface tup from Andrew Provan, Robiesland, took the reserve non-MV honours. It was bought last year at Lanark for £28,000 from John and Iain Renwick.

Beef supreme was the 13-month-old Limousin cross British Blue bullock, Geronimo from James Currie, Westtown. Bred at Carbello, he was bought at Lanark last year.

The May-born Limousin calf, Redbull, shown by Andrew Purdon (7), Stravenhouse, took the reserve.
