Perthshire beef and arable farmer Robert Robb, Woodhead of Aberdalgie, Perth again topped a competitive entry of grain, winning the supreme overall with a 2kg sample of winter wheat.
Mr Robb, who grows 350 acres of cereals, topped the section with a sample of Mountain winter wheat grown for seed. He also secured a second prize rosette in the same section with Craft and led the 2023 UK National listings with an entry of Istabraq produced for distilling. Last year’s overall winners, David McKerrow and sons James and David who now farm at Uppermill, Tarves, this time had to settle with the runner-up trophy for their first prize sample of oats. They topped the section for a second consecutive year, with a sample of Eagle, grown from a 25-acre field sown for milling.
Young Lewis MacPherson (12), Pitsundry, Bankfoot, Perth, kept up the family’s tradition of big wins at LiveScot by leading the junior grain for a second time. Lewis topped the section with an entry of Laurette spring barley and also bagged a red rosette in the winter barley section with a sample of Mountain, while his younger sister, Anna MacPherson, came second.
Reserve in the juniors was Robert Watson, Law Farm, Dechmont, with the winning entry of wheat. Top honours in the hay and silage competition were presented to a sample of hay from AS McKerrow.
