A show that marked the 125-year anniversary of the Border Leicester Sheep Society went down well at Borderway Mart, Carlisle.
The winning tap out was given to the gimmer from Tom Tennant and family, being a home-bred gimmer, a daughter of Alticane Thistlecrack and out of a Eildon Last Chance sired-dam, which is also the dam of Westforth Barbadian, which is a real influencer in the breed.
The blue and white ticket also stayed within the females going to the reserve female champion, a one crop ewe from Duncan Whyte of the Mearns flock, Newton Mearns, Glasgow. She is a Clola Double Deal daughter, and out of a home-bred ewe by Fordafourie Festival.
Leading the males on the day and taking the best opposite sex to the champion trophy home was a shearling ram, jointly owned by Pete and Nicky Brown, Bonniebraes, and Tom Tennant of West Forth. A son of Muirmouth Morelos, he is bred from a home-bred ewe by Clola Double Deal.
