SIR, Regarding Rachel Reeves’ bombshell (inheritance tax), a couple of thoughts spring to mind.
How many elderly farmers, realising that they may not survive the seven years, having until April 2026, will take matters into their own hands and do the ultimate deed to protect their family?
I hope I am wrong.
Also, it must be remembered that the person to whom it is passed on to can die as well.
There is much talk that IHT could encourage the business to be passed on faster but if the son or daughter is not in a long-term, stable relationship then the consequences could be disastrous.
There is only one way out of this problem.
We must persuade the Chancellor to change.
