BOOZE was reportedly banned on the opening day of the Beaufort Hunt in Gloucestershire last week, lest those on horseback forget their social distancing obligations and start passing about hipflasks full of port and brandy. Even worse for the participants, the tradition of lawn meet-ups with yet more port and sausage rolls was also off the menu. However, it is to be assumed that this total lack of alcohol helped everyone abide by the other Covid-19 rules, riding more than a cough-length apart at gates, narrow jumps and confined woodland.
