Good afternoon reader,
Here is all the machinery news from The Scottish Farmer. We have the latest on cutting-edge equipment, technological innovations, and industry insights.
Brian Henderson explores the challenge of affordable machine maintenance in farming and the complex engineering of modern agricultural machinery.
At a recent farm machinery dispersal sale held at Langlands, Guthrie, Forfar, organised on behalf of J and D Hill, a Valtra G135 tractor emerged as the top seller, fetching £49,200. The sale was part of Pentland Auction’s October online event and also saw an Abbey 2500 tanker sell for £11,200.
This season’s cultivation work relies heavily on the condition and performance of tyres, particularly in wet conditions. Continental’s agricultural tyre expert, Tom Godwin, provides five key tips to maximise tyre performance when hauling heavy cultivation equipment.
Meanwhile, another Valtra tractor, a G125E (70 reg), topped an online machinery dispersal sale at Mid Tartraven, Bathgate, on behalf of A Graham and Sons, selling for £43,000.
In broader industry trends, UK tractor registrations continued their decline both monthly and annually. The Agricultural Engineers Association (AEA) reported that only 899 units were purchased in September 2024, reflecting ongoing challenges in the market.
