Cerys Seaton, 25, is the current chairperson of Beith YFC. When she’s not busy attending to YF duties, she also works within the stores department at Fullwoodhead Dairy Supplies, providing customers with all their dairy needs.

Q. How have you found your role as chairperson?

A. My role as chairperson so far has been a fantastic experience, – chairing both club and committee meetings, organising events, and assisting my fantastic secretary, Jean Andrew, with the running of events.

Bringing new events for members to try and experience has been a highlight so far, and watching our club pick up the Small Clubs Trophy at the Ayrshire Rally was a real victory, thanks to our hardworking and dedicated members.

Q. When did you join YFC, and would you say it has changed much over the years?

A. I joined Young Farmers when I was 14 years old, so 11 years ago now. I would say it’s still as great as it was back then; it’s just moved with the times.

Q. Which experiences stand out for you being part of YFs?

A. Definitely the exchange weekends. This is something that Beith YFC only recently brought back onto our club calendar after many years, and it was an amazing experience being able to join in with another club for the weekend, meeting new people, and visiting different farms and landmarks. We have an exchange next month with this year’s Club of the Year – Harray YFC. It will be good to see what events and experiences they offer their members.

Q. Are there any public figures you admire within agriculture?

A. I think if I were to choose anyone, it would be Cammy Wilson from The Sheep Game, a local Ayrshire farmer. His presence on social media portrays both the good and difficult times farming can have.

Q. If farming had its own Olympic sport, what would you like to see?

A. A sheaf toss! I haven’t done it myself, but watching it is enough to know it would deserve a spot at the Olympics.

Q. Your favourite agricultural show?

A. My favourite agricultural show would probably be Ayr Show or The Royal Highland Show.

Q. Best tractor make?

A. With my dad and sister both working for a local John Deere dealer, I would need to go with John Deere.

Q. If you could host any event for the club, what would it be?

A. I would like to host a vintage tractor run for charity; maybe it’s something the club can organise someday!
