The 2024 Scottish Agriculture Awards were once again a resounding triumph, providing the industry a fantastic opportunity to celebrate success and recognise individuals who have contributed significantly to farming life across the country.
With more than 500 guests filling the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Glasgow, the atmosphere was electric, and all the ingredients were in place for a memorable evening.
At the heart of the night were the finalists, and it has been my privilege to speak with many of them through our coverage in The Scottish Farmer. What always amazes me is the sheer talent within our industry, and taking a moment to recognise this not only inspires but also motivates us all. While weather and market challenges are ever-present, the future is looking brighter thanks to the positive energy and determination of so many in the sector.

Scottish agri stars shine in Glasgow celebration night
READ MORE |This year’s finalists represented a wide spectrum of Scottish agriculture, from small family farms producing top-quality beef and lamb to innovative agri-businesses embracing cutting-edge technology to help feed the growing population of tomorrow. It’s clear that whether it’s the next generation of farmers or those with decades of experience, the industry is in safe hands.
Importantly, it wasn’t just the farmers themselves being recognised. Our vets, farm stores, contractors, and advisors play a critical role in keeping the sector moving. Without this network of support, Scottish agriculture simply wouldn’t function. The finalists are living proof that our agricultural sector stands proudly alongside the best in the world.
These awards come at a crucial time for farming, as we navigate a new era of opportunity, all underpinned by the industry’s unwavering passion for production. You only need to glance through The Scottish Farmer or social media to see the pride, excitement, and enthusiasm people have for their farms and communities.
The night not only looked to the future with the finalists but also honoured individuals who have dedicated their lives to the advancement of farming. Two such stalwarts were the agricultural journalist Eddie Gillanders and Sandy Paul, who has had a long and successful career with Ross Bros farming company. As recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award and Unsung Hero Award, respectively, they are shining examples of the people who have built and sustained this industry.
The 2024 awards encapsulated the pride, dedication, and success that defines Scottish agriculture. It was a fitting occasion to celebrate the hard work of so many and to shine a light on the bright future ahead.
A special thank you goes to our partners who helped make this incredible event possible. Firstly, the Royal Highland Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS) – a cornerstone of Scottish agriculture since the days of Robert Burns. Their support and expertise, as ever, was invaluable.
We’d also like to extend our thanks to AgriScot who run one of the best business events in the agricultural calendar. Their expertise helped ensure the night was a great success.
After another stellar night in Glasgow, the Scottish Agriculture Awards are well and truly established in the farming calendar. Here’s to more years of celebrating the very best of our industry!
