Ice warnings are in place on Wednesday morning, as commuters are warned to leave extra time for journeys.
Freezing temperatures set in overnight following rainfall on Tuesday evening, leaving conditions slippery on roads and pavements.
Yellow warnings have been issued by the Met Office covering Strathclyde, South West Scotland, Lothian Borders, the Highlands, Grampian and Central, Tayside and Fife.
The warning remains in place until at least Thursday with heavy wind warnings also in place over the next couple of days in the north of the country and the islands.
Temperatures are set to rise over the course of the day, with windy and rainy conditions expected on the west coast, with southerly gales along the coast.
By 11pm temperatures are forecast to be around 11 degrees in Glasgow, 10 degrees in Edinburgh and 8 degrees in Aberdeen.
A spokesperson said: “Keep yourself and your family safe when it is icy. Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls.
“If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.
“Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.”
