NHS Scotland is providing the free flu vaccine this winter to individuals at increased risk of exposure to avian influenza, such as poultry workers and bird handlers.
While the vaccine does not protect against bird flu itself, NHS Scotland explained recently that it can help lower the risk of a new flu virus emerging.
This could occur if a person is exposed to both flu and bird flu simultaneously.
The flu vaccine is available to those who work at or frequently visit poultry farms and processing facilities, including inspection workers.

It is also being offered to individuals who are involved in the culling or cleaning of premises affected by bird flu, as well as those handling live, sick birds where the disease is suspected.
Public Health Scotland has created a variety of resources to assist in promoting vaccination within the workforce.
"Please help us this winter and encourage your staff to get vaccinated," NHS Scotland urged.
"In addition to reducing the risk of a new flu virus developing when exposed to both flu and bird flu at once, the vaccine also provides protection against seasonal flu."
