NFUS have made clear their position on Scotland’s future direct support budget in response to a consultation from the Agriculture Reform Implementation Oversight Board (ARIOB).
In its submission, NFUS stated that at least 70% of the total agricultural budget must be allocated as direct support through tiers one and two under the new four-tiered policy framework.

The organisation also demands the direct support proportion to be split 70% to tier one and 30% to tier two.
Scotland’s agricultural budget, set by the UK Treasury, is a top priority for NFUS, which is lobbying for an increased, ring-fenced, multi-annual budget to be announced in the UK Budget on October 30.
The Scottish Government have been invited to disclose how funds will be allocated between tiers at the NFUS autumn conference at Ingliston on October 24.
NFUS director of policy Jonnie Hall said: “We remain unequivocal in restating that the significant majority of the future support package in Scotland must be delivered as direct support through tiers one and two."
