A new Hereford breed record of 18,000gns was set at the Hereford Autumn show and sale at Shrewsbury Livestock Market for the bull, Rempstone 1 Alpha N688 from Michael and James Ludgate, Scotsgrove, Thame, Oxon.

The March 2023 born bull is a son of sired by Dendor 1 Nairobi and bred from the Danish import, Rosenkaer Miss World.

The judge, Steve Edwards, Leicestershire, awarded him pre-sale champion, before he sold to Richard Bush and family of the Welburn herd in North Yorkshire.

Topping the females at 5200gns was the January 2023 born heifer, Castle Mount 1 Tessa 421 from P Massey, Lancashire. A daughter of Kinglee 1 Vanguard she is out of a home-bred cow, Castle Mount 1 Tessa, and stood reserve female in the show.

Waving the flag for Scotland, George and Sophie Harvey, Glasgow, sold the second highest priced bull at 5000gns for Harveybros 1 Ace-of-Spades. The May 2023 bull, a son of Normanton Laertes, sold to JA Pudge, Black Hall, Herefordshire.

The female champion, Dendor 1 Anna Mary 45th from DE, ED and AL Jones, realised 4600gns when selling to Paul and Vicky Moyle of the Porton House herd. A daughter of Pepperstock 1 Trigger she is out of the home-bred cow, Dendor 1 Anna Mary 40th.

Another bull in the money was Kingsland 1 Armalight from Vaughans Farms Ltd, Herefordshire obtaining 4100gns. Sired by Gouldingpoll 1 Moonshine he is out of Kingsland 1 Cassiopeia 5th and sold to JC Porter, Bridgwater, Somerset.

Making the trip down from Angus, was JM Cant and Partners from the Panmure herd, which witnessed their November 2022 born bull, Panmure 1 Admiral make 4000gns to SC and GL Hartwright of the Spartan herd. A Romany 1 Thor FR T4 son, he is bred out of a Panmure 1 Plum T6 cow.
