James Nisbet, Sorn Mains, backed his decision at Craig Wilson’s annual show and sale of 392 suckled calves at Ayr when he purchased his choice of champion and reserve.

Supreme was a red 295kg Limousin heifer from the Shennan family, Farden, which made £2500, whilst the runner up went to a 295kg black Limousin bullock from the Duffin family at West Brockloch, and sold for £2000.

However, top price of £3000 was paid for a 305kg Limousin February born heifer from Shona Stevenson C/O, T Laird and Son, Carbello, Cumnock. This is the first crop of calves to be sold off their new stock bull, Springs Sly and out of a home-bred British Blue cross dam. Paul McHarg of Crofhead Farm, Ochiltree, purchased her.

Bullocks (236) and heifers (156 ) averaged 351.25p (+39.07p on the year) and 346.26p (+33.99p) respectively.
