Giant of the farming and poultry world, Sir John Campbell, has passed away.
Born in 1934, Sir John began farming at the age of 15 on a hill farm in Argyll, he married his wife Cathy in 1957.
The Campbell’s arrived at Glenrath Farm in Peebleshire in 1959 where they farmed Blackface sheep and a beef suckler cattle herd on the hills of the Scottish Borders.
They diversified into egg production and they family owned business has continued to grow and is now one of the UK's leading egg production and marketing companies, producing over a million eggs a day.
Featured in The Scottish Farmer’s 'Living Legend' series, Sir John was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2000 New Year Honours, for 'services to the poultry industry', and he was knighted in the 2017 New Year Honours for 'services to farming and charitable service to entrepreneurship'.
Funeral arrangements have been made for Tuesday, October 1, at Peebles Old Parish Church at 2pm.
