A yellow thunderstorm warning has been issued for the majority of Scotland with people urged to take precautions.
A warning had been in place for other parts of the UK over the weekend but it has now reached the majority of Scotland with it to stay in place until midnight. High winds and heavy rain is expected with a risk of flooding, and the Met Office has told people they should be prepared in case of anything more serious such as power cuts.
The greatest chance of impact comes in the east of the country, including Edinburgh, but others such as Dumfries and Galloway, Strathclyde (including Glasgow) and Aberdeenshire have also been warned of the potential of thunderstorms.
The forecaster has also warned of heavy rainfall which could see as much as 80mm of rain fall in less than an hour in parts of the country.
Flash flooding and lightning strikes are also a potential risk while public transport could also be affected if the weather is as bad as expected.
On their website, they said: “Areas of heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue to affect parts of the UK. The extent of these thunderstorms is uncertain and, whilst many places will miss them, some places may see 30 to 40 mm of rain fall in less than an hour and perhaps over 60-80 mm in one or two places.
“Lightning strikes will be additional hazards. The greatest chance of impacts is across eastern Scotland this afternoon (before reducing this evening), as well as parts of Wales and the West Midlands, where the risk continues into the first part of Monday night.”
