The weather played ball for the organisers at Fenwick show, where the sheep lines attracted a strong turn out of exhibitors.
With no champion of champions competition, it was individual winners from the cattle and sheep sections that led the way.
Young Ross Montgomerie took the overall in the cattle lines with his Charolais cross bullock, Marmaduke, beating the winners in the other beef sections. He was continuing his success after lifting the championship at the Young Farmers Rally and a red rosette at the Royal Highland Show.
Shona Stevenson from Carbello had the task of picking an overall sheep champion and found her supreme in the Texel winner. This two-crop-ewe from Allan and Susan Campbell’s flock at Crawlaw, Glaston, was brought out by Stuart McCrindle. Previously unshown, she is a full sister to £38,000 Castlecairn Doodlebug.
Reserve champion sheep was the Beltex winner from the pure continental sheep section, from Daniel Hodge, Dyke. His home-bred gimmer by Broughton Enricher was also Beltex champion at New Cumnock Show.
