Stewart Stronach of the Islavale herd, Keith, had his work cut out for him as official judge of the English National Simmental Show, at Royal Lancashire.

He found his champion in the September 2022-born heifer, Cade Fifi’s Nala, from Paul and Sharrie Cade, Paddock Farm, Buckden, Peterborough, which went on to take the inter-breed championship.

Commenting on his champion Mr Stronach said: “This is just a tremendous heifer. Good in all the right places, she moves well, is easy fleshing, deep in the hip, wide and square, and has real show presence.

She’s very much a modern Simmental with no extremes or hard muscling, and will go on to make a beautiful cow.”

Cade Fifi’s Nala joined up with the bull, Popes Premier from Jimmy and Vikki Wood, Popes Farm, Preston; Denizes Melody 52 and Denizes Melody 53 from the Wacton herd of RE and SHW Steggles, Norfolk, to win the inter-breed team.

The supreme is an ET-born heifer bred from Sterling Celia’s Fifi and sired by Sacombe Jameson.

Reserve was the April 2022-born heifer, Popes Princess Noor from Jimmy and Vikki Wood. Champion at the Great Yorkshire, she is by Team Celtic, out of Popes Princess Hettie and was paraded in calf to Denizes Hamish.

The Woods also lifted the reserve male with their bull, Popes Premier 23, by Popes Lethal Weapon, out of the show cow, Popes Princess Immie.

Male champion was Simply Peter Pan, from Robert and Louise Fitton, Bolton.

He is by Ashland Magic and out of Derrycallaghan Kitka.
