A top price of 40,000gns and another five at 10,000gns and above were the main highlights of the Scottish Area show and sale of pedigree Suffolks at Lanark.

Iain and Judith Barbour of the Solwaybank flock from Annan, produced two of the top three sellers at 40,000gns and 25,000gns, with two full ET brothers.

The January-born lambs are bred from a ewe that goes back to the 5000gns Solway Sapphire 2 and sired by Limestone Online. Dearest was the pen's No 3 purchased by Charlie Boden of the Sportsmans flock from Stockport.

The pen leader made 25,000gns selling to Phil Poole of the Salopian flock from Upper Battlefield, Shrewsbury.

Darragh McMenamin, Killygordon, Co Lifford, Donegal, bought the second top priced lot at 30,000gns. This was the No one from Richard and Lilia Hutchinson's Howgillfoot flock from Kaber, Kirkby Stephen. He is sired by the privately purchased Pyeston Real Deal, which is a full ET brother to the 30,000gns and 32,000gns lambs sold last year.

Aberdeenshire breeder, Finn Christie of the Maidenstone flock from Inverurie, also had a great day, taking 15,000gns for his reserve overall champion at the pre-sale show. He is by Castleisle Blackadder and was knocked down to Jim Innes of the Strathbogie flock, Huntly.

Two lambs made 10,000gns to include the second from Jed Sharp and Benni Lacharden's Sharps flock purchased by Gordon and Donald Mackie, Drimmie and the pen leader from Jim Innes, Strathbogie, which headed home with Stephen Cobbald, Acton.

Overall, 141 ram lambs averaged £2682.71, down £681.58 on the year for six fewer sold.
