A number of safety measures have been put in place ahead of this month's Royal Welsh Show.

The measures include a campaign to encourage youngsters to "Have Fun, Take Care and Stay Safe" during the festivities.

The safety campaign is being implemented by the Builth Wells Events Safety Group.

The campaign, which involves posters, banners, and other media, is designed to encourage people to behave responsibly.

Displayed at licenced premises throughout Builth Wells during show week, the campaign takes a creative and humorous approach to safety.

The safety group, formed by Powys County Council in 2017, has introduced these measures to reduce risk and increase safety for those in and around Builth Wells during the Royal Welsh Show.

Among the safety measures being installed are a safe walking route, the Green Route, and a medical and wellbeing centre operated by St John Ambulance Cymru.

Powys County Council’s Youth Service will also set up a 'pop-up' Help Point providing guidance and welfare support.

Welfare support will also be provided by Street Pastors and Youth Workers at night.

Visitors can also make use of free mobile phone charging at the Help Point, and free water, donated by Radnor Hills.

In addition, drug amnesty boxes will be placed on approaches to venues in and around Builth Wells.

Cllr Richard Church, Powys County Council's cabinet member for a Safer Powys, said: "Of course, we want our visitors to have a great time. It’s a social occasion and a perfect opportunity to meet up with those you may not have seen for a while, but please drink and behave responsibly and look after yourselves and your friends.

"As long as people Have Fun, Take Care and Stay Safe then they will have a memorable time during Royal Welsh Show week."

William Watkins, managing director of Radnor Hills, the official water sponsor of the show, expressed his company's delight at being part of the event that "epitomises" flourishing rural businesses.

Aled Rhys Jones, chief executive of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, said: "Once again, we are pleased to be working with the Builth Wells Event Safety Group to ensure those who visit the Royal Welsh Show, the town and surrounding establishments have a safe and enjoyable time."
