It was the Simmental cow and calf from the Simmers family, Backmuir, at Keith, Morayshire, Moray, that took the beef inter-breed title at this year’s Royal Highland Show.

The judge, Peter Watson, Banchory, Aberdeenshire, found his supreme in the two-year-old cow, Annick Ginger’s Lucia, which was bought at the late Lachlan Quarm’s herd dispersal at Stirling, after standing reserve here in 2022 and champion here last year.

She is sired by Wolfstar Gold Digger, out of Annick Coleen’s Ginger. Paraded with her November born bull calf, which is by Backmuir Marksman.

It was a memorable one for Ian and Andrew Nimmo, Bogside, Newmains, when their Limousin April 2022 born heifer, Maraiscote Tangerine, took the reserve title.

She took the junior inter-breed here last year as well as the reserve breed champion and champion at the Great Yorkshire.

Sired by Morhan Peter, and bred from the Bassingfield Machoman daughter, Maraiscote Orange, she paraded in calf to the French bull, Djerk.
