Jonathan Watson, chairman of the British Limousin Cattle Society (BLCS), has resigned from his position – two months after an initial council vote of no confidence in his work.

The move comes after letters were sent out from a group of seven BLCS council members stating the ‘Council of the Society has broken down and is no longer functioning as it should’.

A statement on the BLCS website states: “It is with regret that council received formal resignation on June 11, 2024 from the Society’s chairman, Jonathan Watson.

“Jonathan has served on council since 2017 and in that time has been part of the modernisation of the Herdbook through implementation of new DNA, performance recording and inspection procedures. In addition, over the last two years, Jonathan has held the position of the Society’s chairman.

“The council of management are taking this opportunity to thank Jonathan for the hard work and dedication to the Society during his council term and chairmanship.”

British Limousin is the second most popular beef breed in the United Kingdom, accounting for 320,917 registrations between 2022 and 2023.
