In pictures: Houston Show Tractor Run deemed 'success'

The Houston and Killellan Agricultural Show Tractor Run, which is organised as part of the agricultural show, returned again earlier this month and was met with a huge crowd.

Starting at the Carrick Centre, people had the opportunity to have their photo taken in the driver's seat of the impressive machinery before watching the parade roll through the village.

Ali Young, born and bred in the village and a local farmer, helped organise the event and admitted that he felt "emotional" when going down the road.

He said: "Someone must be looking down on us because every time we have done this it has been dry.

"But it has undoubtedly become such a community tradition to see the tractors run through the village before the agricultural show.

"All the way back in 2020 when we relaunched this it was met with real positivity and it was the same again this year.

"I took my daughter to nursery the following Monday and all they could talk about was tractors which I was delighted to hear.

"I have to admit that driving down the road and seeing the huge crowd did make me emotional because everyone was really buzzing to see the vehicles."

In total 56 tractors took part in the event this year with an estimated £2300 raised for the Beatson Cancer Charity so far according to Ali.

Those who attended the event expressed their delight at how it was run with one person saying: "Fourth year and (it) gets better every time. Enjoyed by the whole family. Thanks, everyone!

A second person said: "Thank you all for the brilliant tractor run. Such a great cause."

A third added: "Thank you so much, my son loved all the tractors. A massive thank you to everyone."

A fourth said: "This was brilliant thank you, baby boy loved it! Can’t wait till next year."
