Staffordshire police are seeking for more information after three boys, all aged under 12, ‘deliberately’ set fire to 12 bales of hay on a farm.

Police reported that the incident occurred on a farm in Gnosal during late evening of Friday, May 17.

The boys involved in the attack were described by police as being aged between 10 – 12, wearing shorts and t-shirts, with one of them riding a red bike.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service also responded to the scene, stating: “Crews went to a farm in the Gnosal area just after 11:15 p.m. on Friday, May 17, with colleagues from Staffordshire Police and found 12 small hay bales on fire.”

“A hose reel jet was used to extinguish the fire by 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 18.

“An investigation into the cause of the fire later determined that it was started deliberately. Colleagues from Staffordshire Police are now investigating.”

The number of farm fires increased by 21% last year, totalling £83.5m, according to the latest figures from NFU Mutual.
