ENTRIES are still welcome for competitions at NSA Scotsheep 2024, including the Next Generation Shepherd of the Year, and the show and sale of ewe hoggs.
Taking place at the Hamilton family’s Aikengall Farm near Innerwick, Dunbar, on Wednesday, June 5, Scotsheep will welcome nearly 200 trade stands, a series of seminars, workshops and demonstrations as well as competitions including fencing, sheep dog trial, stockjudging, and the NSA Next Generation Shepherd of the Year.
The competition is open to those under 26 years of age on July 30, 2024, and will take place at Thurston Mains on Tuesday, June 4, with the results announced at Scotsheep the following day.
All competitors will be expected to carry out five of the following six tasks – prime lamb selection; shear two sheep; ATV handling; example of correct foot care techniques/handling, vaccinating and dosing; answer questions on flock management and health (compulsory); and sheep dog handling.
Entering the competition is free and must be done so by Friday, 3 May.
The show and sale of ewe hoggs will be judged Scotsheep 2022 hosts, Robert and Hazel McNee, with £85 available in prize money for each of the nine breed classes with a further £100 to the champion. Entry is £25 + VAT per pair.
