A FREQUENTLY used Somerset A-road was forced to close last night (Saturday December 16) after hay completely covered the carriageway.
The A359 Strutter's Hill near Shepton Montague, between Castle Cary and Bruton, closed for almost three hours as a result of the incident.
Travel Somerset first announced the A-road was shut at 8:32pm on Saturday night due to a 'lost load of hay'.
Clean-up crews were fast to the scene of the road which was almost unrecognisable due to the sheer amount of hay covering both the tarmac and the banks on either side.
The road was finally cleared and re-opened at 11:19pm, following hours of tireless work from the crews in attendance.
"A359 Strutters near Shepton Montague - Road re-opened following clear up of shed hay load," read the announcement from Travel Somerset.
Speaking on the impressive clean-up operation, a spokesperson for Travel Somerset said: "Huge effort from the response teams to get this cleaned up and the road re-opened."
