DAIRY lovers have kicked up a row with Tesco after it put a picture of a Guernsey cow on bottles of ­Jersey milk.

They pointed out the chain had mixed up the two distinctly different breeds.

Bovine vets pointed out that Guernsey cows are medium-sized and fawn or red and white in colour.

They produce an impressive 6000 litres per cow per year, but Jersey cows are far more common. They come in all shades of brown, and their milk has a yellowish tinge.

Tesco said: “Our Finest Whole Milk recently changed from milk from both Guernsey and Jersey cows to solely Jerseys.

"We are in the process of updating the photo on the bottle to a ­Jersey cow.”
