'This Farming Life' is returning for its sixth series, following a year in the lives of five farming families across Scotland.
The hit show, which documents the lives of Scottish farming families, follows them through the highs and lows of their businesses, from at home on the farm or croft, to out and about about agricultural shows and sales.
This years' five farms are:
In Newtonmore in the Cairngorms National Park, Robert MacKenzie needs is battling rising costs of feed and fertiliser have shot up this year, which is putting pressure on the cattle farming side of their business.
- Carianne, Fraser and Angus MacDonald – Ardbhan Croft, North Uist.
In North Uist, the MacDonald family are harvesting potatoes grown in the sandy Machair soil unique to the West of Scotland. The croft has been in Angus’ hands since the 1980s but now he’s steadily handing over the reins to son Fraser and daughter-in-law and only full time farm worker Carianne.
- Nikki and Ollie Lake – Thorabella Farm, Moray.
Not all farmers have generations of knowledge to tap into and on Thorabella Farm in Moray, Nikki and Ollie Lake are doing things a bit differently. They bought their first farm in 2017 with the goal of living as self-sufficiently as possible.
In Inverkip, Rachel and Camy are one year into building their own farm, taking on a tenancy at Dunrod Farm and a big bank loan with the dream of one day owning 5000 sheep.
- Heather, John, Finlay, Cameron and Archie Barclay – Maybole, South Ayrshire
In Maybole in South Ayrshire, the Barclay family are getting to grips with their new business venture – buying store lambs to fatten up for the butcher. After John’s father died suddenly last year, he’s trying to make their fourth generation farm work for them.
All of the families will be followed throughout the farming years, charting the highs and lows of the changing seasons and the new challenges these bring to those trying to make a living from various forms of farming and crofting. We'll see them battling weather, financial burdens and family dynamics, as they go about their day to day lives.
The new series kicks off on BBC Scotland, on Monday, August 28 at 8pm, before starting on BBC2 on Tuesdays at 8pm, starting on the following day, August 29.
