MID-WEEK excitement returned to Ochiltree Show, with a great turnout of enthusiastic youngsters parading dairy calves complete with a top quality line up of milking cattle, however it was the beef supreme that went to take the overall this year.
The yearling Limousin cross heifer from James Nisbet, Sorn Mains, Ochiltree, was tapped by the two respective judges on the day, the beef judge, Gareth Scott, Hayhill, Dalry, and the dairy judge, Callum Bryson, Whiteflat, Catrine.
“She is a nice flashy heifer that was well put together and is looking good for the start of the summer shows,” said Mr Scott.

This heifer was purchased in March at Carlisle from John-Smith Jackson for £6000, named, You’re The One That I Want. Now destined for Ayr Show, the Royal Highland and the Great Yorkshire, she is sired by Hightown Jacko and out of a Limousin cross dam.
The duo of judges selected the Holstein Friesian champion as the reserve overall.
“A very handy winner in the section today and is certainly a cow that I would personally like to take home,” said Mr Bryson.
That was the third calver, Townlaw All Class Missy, from Robert Sloan, Darnlaw, Auchinleck. She last calved in January and is now giving 54l. A daughter of Silverridge V Allclass, she is out of the VG98 classified dam, Cottonabbotts Monterey Missy.
Champion calf was the Holstein, Townlaw Unique Chief Cheers, which was brought out by Grace Walker (9), Darnlaw. This October-born calf was on its first outing, being an embryo from Canada, which her sister won the Toronto Winter Fair in Canada. The embryo is a result of the sire, Stantons Chief, matched with the VG88 classified dam, Unique Alexander Charm.

Ayrshire (Judge: Callum Bryson, Whiteflat, Catrine). Champion and reserve – G and G Templeton, Knowe, Auchinleck, with the top award going to Knowe Beatrice 51, a third calver by De La Plaine Prime, and bred from Know Beatrice 29. She is giving 50l being two months in calf and VG88 classified. The runner up went to the in-calf heifer, Knowe Jordy White Lily 3. Paraded four months in calf she is a daughter of Cycle Mcgucci Jordy Red and is now giving 35l. Heifer in milk, Quey in calf or milk, cow in milk having had three calves – Knowe. Cow in milk having had two calves – Lessnessock. Back calving cow – Crofthead.
Holstein Friesian (Judge: Callum Bryson, Whiteflat). Champion – Robert Sloan, Darnlaw, Auchinleck, with the third calver, Townlaw All Class Missy. On her first outing she paraded three months in calf giving 37l.
