Poland and Ukraine have finalised an agreement which will permit grain from the war-torn country through Polish territory to other EU nationals.
Meanwhile, the ban on unloading of selling Ukrainian grain in Poland will remain in place. This follows the Polish Government’s decision to suspend imports of grain from Ukraine until June.
The ban was put in place after growing protests from local farmers who claims that agri-produce moving from Ukraine into eastern Europe was driving down local prices for produce.
The decision was reached after two days of talks between each countries agriculture ministers. For now Ukrainian produce will only get through Poland under a convoy with electronic and digital technology used to monitor these shipments.
Commenting on the agreement, Ukrainian deputy prime minister Yulia Svyrydenko said she understood the concerns of Polish farmers and was grateful for the assistance of Polish authorities.
