One of the best ever UK Dairy Expo's at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, saw the supreme Holstein, Evening Sidekick Jennifer, from Evening Holsteins, land the grand championship, with the lead Red and White standing reserve overall.
Judges Duncan Hunter, Hertfordshire and American husband and wife team, Nathan and Jennifer Thomas, Ohio, were unanimous on their choice of overall champion, a second calver from local breeders, James and Louise Wilson and daughters Charlotte and Emma's 450-cow herd from Evening Hill, Thursby.
Classified VG89 she was reserve at AgriScot and since calving in May is still giving 40litres per day. First at UK Dairy Day, she gave 15,000litres in her first and is due her third in May.
Last year's grand champion, Riverdane Miss Awesome Strawberry, an Ex91 third calver giving 55litres per day since calving three months ago, from Mark and Sue Nutsford, Cheshire, had to settle with the reserve supreme.
It was also a good day for the Scots, with Hughie Kennedy of the Stair herd winning the prestigious John Dennison award and Alison Lawrie won the overall showmanship the previous day.
