Firefighters had to 'bull' out all the stops to rescue a tonne-and a-half bull stock on the bank of a deep river.

Two bulls slipped down the embankment of the River Teme at Knightwick on Tuesday (January 24) afternoon. The owner managed to rescue one of them himself, but the second trapped bull proved more difficult as he was on the far bank and there was no access.

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) sent the specialist animal rescue team from Bromyard together with a water first responder team from Malvern and a boat crew from Evesham.

Belmont Farm and Equine Vets joined the crews at the scene to look after the Hereford bull during the rescue.

The bull, weighing one-and-a-half tonnes, was helped down the river using the boat to a safe place where he could stand, walk to the side and then get out of the water.

After a short walk back to the farm buildings the vet was able to give him a full check-over.

He was uninjured and will soon be back out in the field.
