The Highland Show is the premier event for crook makers, according to Kate Elliot, who has been making sticks for 20 years.
Mrs Elliot explained that the busy stand has sold more sticks than ever and described the show’s return as 'absolutely brilliant. Prices range from £30 to over £200, which Mrs Elliot believes is still a bargain, as if the cost was calculated on a per hour rate it would be into the thousands.
Drew Oliver, who has also made hundreds of shepherds crooks since he started in the 1970s, said: “The price has risen since we first had the stand in 1965, you could get a crook for £2-3 each. We make a lot of different sticks nowadays like walkers sticks and kid sticks.”
