A centre record Hereford bull average of £4404 was achieved at the spring show and sale at Shrewsbury Auction Centre, achieving a 79% clearance rate.

Sale leader and male champion, Rempstone 1 Virus N598, achieved 11,000gns for Michael and James Ludgate, Scotsgrove, Thame, Oxfordshire, which was paid by Robert Allcock to join his Shrewsbury-based Burmill herd. This January 2021-born bull is sired by Solpoll 1 Nobility, out of Blakesley 1 Myrtle, a Dendor 1 Krypton daughter.

Another by the same sire, Rempstone 1 Vicenzo N600, changed hands at 6000gns to RA Bradstock and partners, Tarrington, Herefordshire. This boy was placed third in the pre-sale show out of the Hawkesbury 1 Vespa daughter, Rempstone 1 Dowager V424.

Next in the money at 8500gns was Classic 1 Theodore from R Edwards and E Smith, Swindon, Wiltshire. This yearling bull stood reserve senior male champion being a son of Kinglee 1 Nimrod, out of Classic 1 Showgirl, and found a new home with Pete Cobley, Stoney Stanton, Leicestershire.

The only horned bull in the sale stood senior male champion for PRJ and LR Vincent, Pulham Market, Norfolk, before going on to make 6500gns to W Shaw, Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire. The September 2020 born, Pulham Victory, is by the Irish import, Shiloh-Farm Elite out of Pulham Blossom 16th, which is a Haven Hotspur daughter and bred from the famous Badlingham Blossom line.

Hoghton View 1 Jackpot from S and E Walker, Preston, Lancashire, realised 5600gns when selling to EL Lewis and son, Dilwyn, Herefordshire. This homozygous polled January 2020 bull, is by the 2021 National Poll show senior male champion, Hoghton View 1 Jackaroo.

Not far behind on 5500gns was Auckvale 1 Trafford 1991T from W and R Kemp and sons, Co Durham, which was knocked down to Steven O’Kane and Helen Morgan, of the Keadyview Herefords. This boy is a son of Auckvale 1 Ramesses 1711R and out of Auckvale 1 Janet 1649P.

Tim and William Livesey, Leicestershire, secured 5000gns for their best, Normanton 1 Van Gough. This boy is a son of Dendor 1 P.Coltrane, out of a Days Calibre G74 sired-dam, and sold to Anthony Whitfield, Derrington, Staffordshire.

The same home topped the heifer section at 8000gns with their female champion, Normanton 1 Blue Leg 13th V555. A Panmure 1 Pudding daughter, she is out of a Laertes sired dam, and again also found a new home with Anthony Whitfield.

The same buyer also purchased the dark heifer, Barwise 1 Anise MU 127T, which stood first in its class for CS Fletcher, Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria before going on to make 6400gns. Boasting Dendor 1 Goblin and Barwise 1 Wellington in its pedigree, she is scanned in calf to Barwise 1 Tortuga.

John and William McMordie, Ballygowan, Co Down, sold their best, Solpoll 1 Pansy T17 for 6000gns, to the Allwood herd of FJ Wood and sons, Moreleigh Totnes, Devon. Having placed second in her heifer class, she is sired by Moeskaer Mentos and out of the Panmure 1 Henry sired Solpoll 1 Pansy M16.
