Rocknell Nower rocked himself to the top at the recent sale of Devon cattle at Sedgemoor when recieving 9500gns as well as the pre-sale champion.

Sale leader came from Graham and Anita Summerhayes, Tiverton, Devon, being a March 2020-born son of Forde Abbey Commodore EX90. Taking him home were Messrs Heywood and Hurd of the Whitefield herd, Wiveliscombe, Somerset.

Judge, John Barker of the Efford Down herd said: “Everything about the bull is right. He walks well and is an excellent example of the breed.”

Next best was 3500gns paid for Priorton Viceroy from John May, Crediton, Devon. He is sired by the multiple show winner, Dira Halcyon EX93, and was purchased by T Eames, Chard.

A pair of bulls made 3000gns each, the first being the reserve champion which came in the form of, Larkbarrow Woodland from Henry Rawson, Minehead, Somerset. This son of Bollowal Back Row sold to Richard Toon of the Okeover herd, Derbyshire.

On the same price tag was Tilbrook Outstanding for Gavin Hunter from Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. This bull is sired by Tilbrook Classis, and was knocked down to W Pearse, Newton Abbot, Devon.

Overtown Primrose 4th led the female trade at 2050gns for John White, Swindon, Wiltshire. This maiden heifer is sired by Overtown Brigadier, and sold to Messrs Ellacott Brothers, Beaworthy, Devon.

Next best at 1800gns was achieved by Coxwell Brighteyes 41st from the Berners Allsopp Estate, Farringdon, Oxfordshire. This daughter of Coxwell Thesiger, again went home with Messrs Ellacott Brothers.

The same buyers also went to 1600gns for the in-calf heifer, Westside Dot 2nd from RC and LE Stanley, who was AI’d to Boskenna Ferdinand.

The steer section of the sale witnessed nine steers cashing in at £997.50 and topping at 1250gns for Richard Toon, who donated £500 from his sales to the Ukraine appeal.
