Ever increasing demand for working collie dogs, ensured another flying trade at a timed online sale of 220 dogs through Farmers Marts, Dolgellau, where prices peaked at 14,600, £10,900 and £10,200.

Sale leader was Ricky Hutchinson's Shadwell Hattie, a two-year-old black and white bitch from Littledale, Lancaster. Bred from the best of trial genetics, Hattie is out of Meg Hutchinson's Katie – last year's One Man and His Dog champion and English team member – and sired by another English team member in Ben Smith's own Ben. She sold to a buyer in Snohornish, USA.

Flo, another two-year-old bitch this time from Co Mayo trialist, Alan Moran, Newport, made £10,900, selling to an undisclosed buyer in south Wales

Just behind, on £10,200, Kelly, a full litter sister to the record priced £27,100 Kim, from Dewi Jenkins, Ceredigion, sold to a cattle farmer in Northern Ireland. She is out of Ross Games' Caefelin Clem and sired by Frank Hickson's Graylees Dollar.

Top price for fellow Welsh triallist, Kevin Evans, Llwynfedwen, was £9800 paid for Gwen, another two-year-old bitch which also sold across The Pond to the USA. She sold in pup to Jock for early March.

Mr Evans also sold the top priced pup at £5100 when Rhys, a 12-week-old dog by Red Spot, was knocked down to an undisclosed Scottish buyer.

Emma Gray's home-bred two-year-old bitch, Graylees Blue, from Bute, sold for £7400.

Galashiels-based Sion Morgan, Stow, sold the second top priced pup, Pulse, a four-month-old Huntaway bitch at £3700. From Mainstay Huntaways, her dam, Bizz was imported from New Zealand in 2015, while her sire is Dyfed Davies's Celt.

By the end of the day, no fewer than 28 dogs had sold for more than £4000, with trained lots averaging, £4356; partly trained, £1202 and pups at £642. The overall average was £2065.
