Some 696 prime hoggs were sold through Craig Wilson Marts to level at 258p per kg having reached a top of £144 for a Beltex from W McMillan, Garheugh or to 313.6p for Beltex from Barnean Farming Co.

Blackfaces were topped at £119 from Lagafater Farms, Barnvannoch or to 273.6p from J and T Scott, Garchew, whilst cast sheep attained £168 for a pair of Suffolk cross tups from PA Murray, High Ersock.

Ewes sold to £142 for a Beltex from W McMillan.

Penrith

At Penrith and District Farmers' Mart, 2515 prime hoggs sold to a top of 377p and £162 for a pen of 43kg Beltex cross Texels from Messrs Lightfoot, Gillside, to level at £125.81.

Cast ewes balanced out at £107.54 having sold to £240 for Texels from JM and SM Priestley, Cracrop Farm.

Cockermouth

Mitchells Livestock Centre’s sale of prime cattle peaked at 216p for a British Blue bull from Crooklands or to £1398.93 for a Simmental from TA Byers, Ellenbank.

A Fleckvieh from Dundraw Farms topped the cast cows at 184p and £1453.60.

Beltex led the prime hoggs at 382.5p from High Moss and £193 from Grange Farm, to average 258.33p.

A Texel from WW and D Boow, Corney Hall, topped the cast ewes at £189.

Wooler

Some 872 hoggs and 452 cast sheep were forward for Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale, which saw hoggs sell to a top price of 350p and £160 for 46kg Beltex from JR Walton, Grange Moor.

Cast ewes peaked at £205 for Texels from SA Hunter, Reaveley Greens, whilst tups sold to £159 for a Suffolk from Fawdon Farms, Broomewood.

Dumfries

At C and D Auction Marts' cattle peaked at 266p for a Limousin cross heifer from J Jardine, Yett and £1644 for another of the same from Fauldingcleugh.

The sale of OTM's attained £1161 for a Holstein from Maxwellbank or to 178p for a Limousin from Laverockhall.

Some 776 hoggs sold to £140 for Texels from Rigghead and 297p from Loaningfoot and Millriggs, to average 276.5p.

A top price of £132 was paid for a Texel ewe from Netherton, while Texel rams from Bushcroft made £186.

Forfar

Limousins topped all sections at Lawrie and Symington's sale with bullocks attaining 260p for a 632kg entry from Nethermyres and to £1658.88 for a 648kg animal from the same home, to average 253p.

Nethermyres also topped the heifers with a 532kg animal selling for 279p. Top priced heifer per head at £1589.76 was a 576kg entry from Gask. Heifers averaged 257p.

The 365 prime hoggs cashed in at 270.7p with the sale reaching 335.7p and £141 on two occasions, firstly for a 49kg Beltex and secondly for a pair of 42kg Beltex from MA Steele and Co., The Goddens.

Texels from Over Baldinnie topped the cast sheep at £142.

Huntly

United Auctions sold 812 prime hoggs to average 260.2p with prices peaking at 307p for 41kg Beltex from Auchairn, Keith and to £150 for 59kg Texels from North Dorlaithers, Turriff.

Cast ewes attained £205 for a Texel tup from South Easterton, Hatton.

Stirling (Cale)

At Caledonian Marts' sale heifers sold to 275p for a Limousin from JH and NT Turnbull, Meadowend, and to £1653 for a Limousin from J and J Wylie, Knockhouse, Crossford.

Bullocks reached 275p on two occasions for Limousins from C and K Malone, Pitcairn, and from Meadowend or to £1710 for a Limousin from Meadowend.

The sale of 78 OTM's cashed in at 145p having sold to 245p for a Limousin from Meadowend, or £1600 for another of the same from F McNicol, Blindburn, Mauchline. Dairy types hit 133p from A and N Christie, Dalfoil, Balfron and £1070 from GW Paterson, Barbeth, Cumbernauld.

Leading prime hoggs on Tuesday at 310p was a pen of four Beltex from RA Campbell and Sons, Meikle Seggie or to £144 for Texels from C Smith, South Flanders.

Texels also topped the cast sheep with ewes to £216 from A and C Hamilton, Birch Avenue and a ram to £180 from J and M Graham, Craigluscar.

Stirling (UA)

Beltex led United Auctions' prime hogg sale, which cashed in at 259.42p having sold to £150 from Luckenburn and Doune Farms, and 341p again from Doune Farms.

West Carse led the cast ewe trade with Texels attaining £234 with rams making £174 for Bluefaced Leicesters from Shawend.

Darlington

Darlington Farmers Auction Mart had forward 206 prime cattle and 1903 sheep, where steers sold to 274p for a Limousin from MF Hall, Ponteland and to £1731 for another of the same from WJ Scott Ltd, West Woodburn.

Heifers peaked at 326p for a Limousin from MF Hall and to £1895 for a similar animal from AC Simpson and Son, McNeil Farm.

Limousins also led the 83 bulls at 254p from D Richardson and Co, Bracken House, Melsonby or to £2188 from AC Simpson and Son.

McNeil Farm also topped the prime hoggs, which levelled at 258p having sold to £156 for Texels. Top price per kg was 339p for more of the same from Tallentire.

Cast sheep were topped at £160 for Texel ewes from P Turnbull, Kildale.

Thainstone

Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale, sale saw bullocks average 217.1p having peaked at 236p for a 625kg Limousin from Hillside Farm, Dufftown or to £1558 for a 760kg Limousin from Standingstones, Echt.

Limousins led the heifers which balanced out at 224.2p having reached 248p for a 565kg animal from Newton of Drum, Drumoak, or £1546.45 for a 785kg entry from Hillocks, Whiterashes.

The four young bulls achieved 199p per kg for a 555kg Limousin from Netherskaill, Birsay or to £1474.40 for a 760kg Simmental from Beechlea, Allathan, to cash in at 170p.

Finished beef cows levelled at £1298.68 and were topped at £2010 for a 1104kg Charolais from Selbie, Keith-hall, while feeding beef cows sold to £1290 by a 742kg Simmental from Scrabster House, Thurso, to average £1005.09.

The firm also sold 2790 prime hoggs which balanced out at 250.4p having sold to 351.2p for a pen of 41kg Beltex from Little Muddie Lumphart Farm, Inverurie and to £172 for 75kg Continentals from Culhay, Forbes.

The 1329 feeding sheep were topped at £240 for Charollais cross ewe from Eastside, Whitecairns, to average £96.37.

Longtown

Beltex hoggs proved the cream of the crop at C and D Auction Marts' weekly sale, with prices peaking at 410p and £178 from W Murray and Sons, Prior House, Kirklinton to average 269.6p with an SQQ of 273.5p.

The 4174 ewes were topped at £215 for Texels from JW Crozier, Raggetsyke, Waterbeck.

As a mark of respect for the passing of Ali Shan, one of the firm's leading buyers, two ewes were donated by J Clark, Northern Ireland to The British Heart Foundation which sold at £270 to Romford Halal Meats. The second ewe from D MacDonald, Northern Ireland, was knocked down at £560 to Najib and Sons Ltd, who then resold the ewe and bought it again, with it then going on to sell another 10 times at £540 to the following: West Scottish Lamb, Jason Tucker, Michael Lomax, Daniel Kemp, Nigel Kinsey, Kedzlie Farms, G Bell, Haas Side and James Gittins, Ystum Colwyn Farms Ltd, Roy Eardley and Pak Mecca Meats.

A total of £6790 was achieved for the charity, with C and D Auction Marts contributing a final donation for a final figure exceeding £7000.

St Boswells

Bullocks and heifers levelled at 250p and 263p respectively at Harrison and Hetherington's sale, with the former making £1736.64 from Humbie Mill and 280p from Hexpath.

Heifers sold to £1775.36 from Upper Nisbet or to 300p from Bee Edge.

Woodhouse and Mosstower led the cast cattle at 201p and £1614.06, respectively.

Prime hoggs cashed in at 263p with prices peaking at £158 for Texels from Bonjedward, Hawthornside or to 306.7p for Beltex from Wester Middleton.

Topping the cast ewes at £163 was a Texel from G Harper, Brockielaw, with tups selling to £125 for more of the same from Lylestane.

Lanark

Limousins from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie claimed all the top cattle prices at Lawrie and Symington's sale, where heifers reached £1803 and 290p, and bullocks sold to 260p and £1866.

Beef cows peaked at £1600 for a Limousin from Greenshields and to 185p for another of the same from Newbigging Mill.

A larger show of 3306 prime hoggs was topped at £158 for Texels from Messrs Struthers Collielaw and to 373p for Beltex from Messrs Frame, Cronan, to average 270p with an SQQ of 274p.

The 2101 cast sheep achieved £214 for Texels from Yeldabrek and to £100 for BF from Haspielaw.

Ayr

Some 2043 prime hoggs were forward for Craig Wilson Marts' sale, which balanced out at 266.5p having sold to £141 for a pen of Texels from J Lang and Son, Parkerston or to 325.6p for a pair of Beltex from Kilkerran Estate.

The 402 Blackface hoggs peaked at £126 for a pen of six from James Murdoch, Kncokdon and to 274.3p for a pen of 49 from JW Kay and Son, Gass.

A smaller show of 483 cast sheep saw prices peak at £202 for a Charollais tup from Messrs Dalrymple-Hamilton, Shallochpark, with ewes selling to £180 for a Texel from Iain Crawford, Stuck Farm, Isle of Bute.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 17 prime cattle where heifers reached 274p and £1589.20 for a Limousin cross from North Boig, to average 250.1p, while bulls were topped at £1440 for an Aberdeen-Angus from Bridgend or 187.3p for a Hereford from Craigmalloch.

Dingwall

Dingwall and Highland Marts sold seven prime cattle, where bullocks sold to 230p and £1575.50 for a 685kg Limousin cross from Ashley, North Kessock.

The same home also led the heifer trade with Limousin crosses which reached 243p and £1550.40.

The firm's sale of 631 prime hoggs sold to 298.9p and £133 for 44.5kg Beltex crosses from Torgorm, Conon Bridge, to average 260.5p, whilst feeding sheep made £156 for a Texel ewe from Muirton Mains, Urray.

Wigton

Prices were strong through Hopes Auction Mart, where heifers sold to 280.5p per kg for a 20-month-old Limousin from RE Miller, West Farm or to 279.5p for a 16-month-old British Blue from JG and M Little, Greenhill Farm.

Steers attained 224.5p for a 725kg Limousin from JJ Dixon, The Thwaites and to £1861.80 for a 23-month-old Charolais from J Dixon and Son Ltd, Lesson Hall.

Prime hoggs balanced out at 308p with an SQQ average of 314p. The sale was topped at £172 on two occasions, firstly for a pair of 45kg Beltex fro Lesson Hall and again for a 42kg Beltex from SM Watson, Croft House, Caldbeck or to 418.1p for four 38.75kg Beltex from R Hall and Son, Inglewood Edge.

In memory of Ali Shan, Yorkshire Halal Meats, a 42kg Beltex lamb was donated by Robert Skelton, New Hall Farm to the British Heart Foundation, where it was sold 12 times before being purchased at £200 to Vivers Scotlamb. The money raised at during the sale was £3030, with a total of £3162.50 raised including further donations from regular farming vendors.

Castle Douglas

On Tuesday, Wallets Marts sold 1429 hoggs to average 264.41p with an SQQ of 265.29p. The sale was topped at £146.50 for Texels from Messrs Heuchan, Townhead of Greenlaw and to 339.3p for Beltex from Messrs Craig and Co, Compstonend.

Some 515 cast ewes were topped at £160 for Texels from Blair Farm, while rams reached £170 for more of the same from Denty Texels.
