Heatheryhall continued on their winning ways at the Beltex Scotland Club sale at Lanark, when selling the lead priced ram for the fourth year on the trot, whilst also achieving a new centre record of 6500gns.

Brothers, Alfie and Tommy Taylor's shearling ram, Heatheryhall Father Ted, from Thankerton, is a son of the 30,000gns Buckles Dark Dawn and out of Edenfauld Ripple. A full brother to the 2000gns gimmer sold at Carlisle last month, he sold in a two-way split to Jimmy Glasgow, Felton, West Linton; and Tom Linton, The Firs, Muirhouse, Cleghorn, Lanark.

The pen leader from the same home, Heatheryhall Focus, hit 6200gns when selling to Jim and Andrew Gibb, Toftcombs, Biggar. This shearling is a son of Lurg Emperor, out of the home-bred dam, Heatheryhall Deluxe which goes back to Rathbone Aggressive.

Matching that 6200gns sale and achieving a personal best for Andrew and Euan Lawrie, Grangehall, Lanark, was Grangehall Felix. Another by Emperor, a 6200gns purchase at Carlisle, and out of Grangehall Camilla, which goes back to Quarrymount William Wallace, he was knocked down to Robert Rennie of Attonburn, Yetholm, Kelso.

A direct son of Quarrymount William Wallace from the same home but bred from a home-bred dam by Corbelly Top Man, then made 1700gns to James Gibb, Toftcombs, Biggar.

On the same money was Todhall Finlay from Fife breeder, Andrew Wainwright, Todhall, Dairsie, Cupar. He is by the 10,000gns Callacrag Bull's Eye, which has bred sons to 5500gns and daughters to 4000gns, whilst the dam is a Forglen ewe. He also sold to Jim and Andrew Gibb, Toftcombs.

Top price amongst the ram lambs was 5800gns paid by a trio of buyers – Andrew Baillie, Carstairs Mains, Lanark; Gordon Harrison of the Gordy's flock, Carnwath; and A Taylor, Southholm, Lanark – for Kenny's Golden Balls, from Kenny O'Connor, Carstairs Junction, Lanark. One of the first sons sold from last year's 3800gns Carlisle purchase, Broughton Enricher, he is out of Kenny's Cali, which goes back to the Scottish National Show champion 2015, Callacrag Sagar.

Mr O'Connor also topped the aged rams at 2800gns with Riggroad Edinburgh, bred by J Hodge. This 2019-born tup is by Hackney Countryman, out of Riggroad Bluebell, and headed home with Allan Campbell, Strawfrank, Carstairs Junction.

Osprey Glen Lyon made his mark for Iain Reid, Isle Cottage, Perth, when selling for 3600gns to Grant Maxwell, Faughhill, Melrose; and Gordon Gray, Sunnycroft, Selkirk. A son of the 11,000gns Procters Aerosmith, he is out of Mortons Caffe Latte, which was bought as an in-lamb gimmer in 2019.

Selling at 2800gns was the best from Gordon Harrison's eight ewe-flock from Lanark. Gordy's Godzilla is a son of the 30,000gns Buckles Dark Dawn and out of Lurg Ella, which was purchased at Carlisle last year for 5000gns. Godzilla sold to the Buckles family, Buckles, Barras, Kirkby Stephen, along with Neale and Janet McQuistin, Newton Stewart.

The pre-sale champion, Cottage Gangster, from Jimmy Bell, Highfield, Auchengray, Lanark, later realised 2000gns when selling to the pre-sale judge, Mary Dunlop, Corstane, Broughton, Biggar, who teamed up with Gary Morrison, Crosswood Terrace, Tarbrax, to buy him. A son of Edendiack Eerie, he is out of Cottage Eve, which is another by Quarrymount William Wallace.

The last lot in the ring, a gimmer topped the females at 1600gns for Miller Farms, Midmar, Aberdeenshire. This was Lurg Flash a daughter of Heatheryhall Campbell, out of Aviemore Dolores, which goes back to Airyolland Avicii. Taking her home were G and L Carroll, Edendick, Gartly, Huntly.
