A new Beltex female record of 15,000gns was paid for the gimmer Buckles Frisky, along with a top price of 24,000gns for the ram lamb, Logie Durno Godfather, on the second day of the Premier Sale staged at Harrison and Hetherington's Carlisle centre.

New breeders, Willie and Carole Ingram, sons, Gregor and Bruce and daughter Amy, from Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, saw their first lamb from their four ewe flock established in 2020, attract that 24,000gns lead bid.

Godfather is a son of last year's 11,000gns purchase, Buckles Fury, and out of Airyolland Bathsheba, a Dooley Napal daughter, bought privately last year that is a maternal sister to the 65,000gns Airyolland Castro. He sold in a four-way split to Kevin Buckle and sons Tom and Jack, Kirkby Stephen; Neil and Janet McQuistin, High Airyolland, Newton Stewart; Jeff and Sue Wilkinson, Langlands, North Yorkshire; and Loui Van Geffen, Carlton in Cleveland.

Next at 16,000gns was the ram lamb, Dooley Garnet from father and son duo, David and Joe Thornley, Wartoft Grange, Diseworth, Leics. This one is a son of the 11,000gns Clary Cosmos and out of Dooley Camille, which goes back to Topflite Al Pacino. Final bidders were David and Karen Shuttleworth, Heber Park, Skipton.

A full brother to this lamb then made 5000gns selling to James Wannop, Heaton Hall.

Richard Wood and his father John, Kingledores, Tweedsmuir, Broughton, were again in the money, selling their ram lamb, Kingledores Godzilla, for 11,000gns.

He is the first crop of sons from the 5500gns Skiddaw View Endurance and out of Withy Trees Champagne, which produced the 9000gns Kingledores Elvis sold at Skipton last year. Godzilla was knocked down to Grant Maxwell buying for his Faughhill flock from Melrose.

On the flip side, Grant sold his best for 10,000gns in a three way split to Neil and Charlotte Brown, Claughton Hall, Lancaster; Messrs Pyman, Stainton, Penrith, Cumbria; and Messrs Towers, Wray, Lancaster, Lancashire. Faughhill Gladiator, by the privately purchased, Heatheryhall Fireman Sam, is bred from the home-bred dam, Eildon Cannon, by Callacrag Barbarian.

James Wannop, Heaton Hall, had another good day, following some cracking sales for shearling rams, selling his best, Wannop’s Godfather, for 9000gns in a four-way split to Alfie and Tommy Taylor, Heatheryhall; Andrew Wainwright, Todhall; Ted Fox, College, Thankerton; and SH Spours and Sons, Henlaw. He is one of the first crop of lambs from the 9000gns Brothertoft Fynley, and out of Dean Brow Classy, which was bought in 2019 and is sired by Ardstewart Armani.

The sole lamb forward from Rory Gregor, Gregor's Gunner, from Thainstone, Aberdeen, realised 5500gns, when selling to the Grays for their Espley flock near Morpeth. A son of Airyolland Choco which has bred sons to 14,000gns, he is out of the Barco V/H Groentenhof sired-dam, Gregor's Clarissa.

Another lamb to make 5000gns was Vicky’s Gladiator from Northern Irish father and daughter duo, John and Vicky Ferguson, Ballyrainey, Comber, who achieved their top price to date. Selling to Aberdeenshire breeders, Stuart Wood, of the Woodies flock from Skene and Alan Miller, Lurg, Midmar, was a son of Orkney Eurostar, out of Vicky’s Dawn, herself a Murrays Crackajack daughter.

* Creating a new record for a female sold at auction was the gimmer, Buckles Frisky which realised 15,000gns for the Buckle family, Barras, Kirkby Stephen.

She is a daughter of the 10,000gns Gyffin Dexter, and is the first female for sale from the show winning, College Adele, making her a full brother to the 17,000gns Buckles Frankel sold the previous day, with a half brother realising 30,000gns here last year. She sold to Chris Wright, Boston, Lincs.

Next best among the females at 8000gns was Brilley Fancy Pants from Jamie and Richard Jerman, Wearn, Herefordshire.

She is by Swffryd Exclusive that sold for 6500gns last year, out of Hackney Dior, which goes back to Topflite Al Pacino. Fancy Pants found a new home with Matthew Burleigh of the Matt's flock, Shanra, Northern Ireland.

Settling at 7000gns was Heatheryhall Forget-Me-Knot from Tommy and Alfie Taylor, Thankerton, which sold to George Cropper, Accrington, Lancashire. She is the first daughter sold from the 30,000gns Buckles Dark Dawn, bought here in 2019 which last year bred five ram lambs to average in excess of £8000. The dam, Heatheryhall Campbell goes back to Tacherhill Regal.

Stuart Wood's Woodies flock sold to 5000gns and 4500gns. Dearest was Woodies Fantasy, a daughter of the 14,000gns Woodies Emperor which was used as a lamb, out of Woodies D, which goes back to Clary Chancer. Jack Monk for his Monks flock near Blackburn was the last bidder on this girl.

The latter, Woodies Fairytale was knocked down to Alistair Meikle, Helentongate, Kilmarnock. She is from the first crop of gimmers from the 10,000gns Ryder DIY, while her dam, V/D Harlembois stood first as an aged ewe at the Royal Highland Show in 2018 and 2019.

Selling for 4000gns was Andrew Wainwright’s Todhall Flower Power, from Todhall, Dairsie, Cupar. She is by the 10,000gns Callacrag Bull's Eye and out of Todhall Brooke, which is one of the best Kingledores Warrior daughter in the flock having bred gimmers to 5000gns. Neil Laing, Perryflatts, Thanketon, forked out the cash.
