TWO MAJOR online events for Scotland’s shooting community have been organised in preparation for May’s Scottish Parliamentary elections.

The British Association for Shooting and Conservation is encouraging shooters of all persuasions from across Scotland to sign up to its regional online hustings, where participants will be able to hear from – and question – a cross-party panel of parliamentary candidates on all matters pertaining to field and country sports.

The first ‘Northern Hustings’ event – for those living in the Highlands and Islands, North East Scotland and mid-Scotland and Fife electoral regions – will take place on Wednesday April 14, at 7pm on the zoom online platform.

The second ‘Central and Southern Hustings’ event – for those living in all other electoral regions – will take place on Thursday April 15, at 7pm on zoom.

Both events are free and will be attended by parliamentary candidates from the SNP, the Scottish Conservatives, Scottish Labour, the Scottish Liberal Democrats and Alliance for Unity.

BASC Scotland’s public affairs manager, Ross Ewing, said: “This is a unique and important opportunity for Scotland’s shooting community to find out what Scotland’s political parties think about field and country sports.

“Attendees will have the opportunity to put questions to the candidates directly or submit them in advance, and we will be asking candidates to expand on party policies that have the potential to impact on shooting.

“We strongly encourage Scotland’s shooting community to sign up to these events in order to make an informed decision on polling day.”
