FARMING CHARITY RSABI has received a donation of £80,000 from the NFU Mutual Charitable Trust – to allow the organisation to keep providing emotional, practical and financial support to people in the Scottish agricultural industry.

RSABI is among eight charities to receive a funding boost from the pot of £750,000 pledged to the Trust, in response to the ongoing challenges faced by communities across the UK.

The recent donation follows contributions totalling £80,000 for RSABI from the Trust in 2020.

RSABI’s Chief Executive Nina Clancy said: “The NFU Mutual Charitable Trust has been a great supporter of RSABI for many years, and we’re very grateful for this latest funding boost.

“During the pandemic RSABI has lost significant fundraising and investment income. The three significant donations we’ve received from the NFU Mutual Charitable Trust within the past twelve months have been incredibly important in helping us to maintain our services," she explained.

“It’s been a difficult time, with greater risk of loneliness and isolation and many people struggling with their mental wellbeing – on top of all the usual challenges of farming and crofting. Donations like this one help to ensure that RSABI is here for everyone who needs us.

Group Chief Executive of NFU Mutual, Lindsay Sinclair, added: “A recent NFU Mutual survey showed that one in five respondents have felt uncertain how to cope with the potential emotional implications of the pandemic.

“These feelings are driving a growing need for support, and we want to help these charities meet the demand, enabling them to maintain practical and emotional support for our communities at a time which is proving to be especially difficult.

“The impact of the funding will reach the isolated and vulnerable, those experiencing mental health issues and families facing financial challenges across the UK – all areas of particular concern as the pandemic continues to affect our communities," she continued.

“Last year saw the highest value of support provided by the Charitable Trust since it was formed in 1998. We’re proud to match the same level of funding this year as national charities strive to meet the demand for their vital services. We recognise that these continue to be difficult times and understand the importance of extending our heightened support during the ongoing crisis.”
