DEFRA is to take part in a public debate on its Agricultural Transition Plan and the future of renewable energy on UK farms, during the conference session at the Low Carbon Agriculture Show Online next week.

The keynote presentations will cover insights from industry leaders on the journey to a sustainable agricultural sector, with Stephen Ayres, of Defra's policy strategy team discussing the Agricultural Transition Plan, while Joe Penrose, senior policy advisor with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy will outline the transformation of the UK’s energy system. Looking at the renewable energy opportunities specifically for farmers will be Jon Swain, technical director at NFU Energy.

The keynote conference session will take place on Tuesday March 9, chaired by Dr Jonathan Scurlock, the English NFU's chief advisor on renewable energy and climate change: “The NFU strongly supports the Low Carbon Agriculture Show Online. The event has always been a trailblazer, and its focus on low carbon agriculture, natural capital enhancement and agri-tech is very much in tune with current policy, at a key time of change in agriculture," said Dr Scurlock.

The event is free for farmers, landowners and related agri/rural business owners. All registrations will be verified and all other attendees will be required to pay £99 plus VAT to gain access to the online content. Registration is online: https://lowcarbonagricultureshow.co.uk/register/.
